Leveraging a Data to Care Approach to Cure Hepatitis C within the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program (RWHAP) Evaluation Contract
Client: HIV/AIDS Bureau, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA HAB)
Data to care is an important public health model to link and/or reengage individuals into care with the intention of retaining those individuals in care. A 2018 study published in the Journal of the International AIDS Society indicates that of those individuals co-infected with HIV and Hepatitis C Virus (HCV), most attained sustained virologic suppression of their HCV once treated; however, approximately one-half of individuals co-infected with HIV and HCV remained untreated. It is imperative that health departments (state, city, and local) work to leverage data to care models to link individuals with HIV and HCV to care and work toward the development and implementation of a plan to treat and cure their HCV.
To leverage a data to care approach to cure hepatitis C within the RWHAP, HRSA HAB released cooperative agreement HRSA-20-077, titled, “Leveraging a Data to Care Approach to Cure Hepatitis C within the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program (RWHAP).” In support of that agreement, Mission Analytics Group worked with HRSA HAB to design, pilot, and conduct the evaluation of this two-year cooperative agreement to demonstrate the achievement and effectiveness of the project’s objectives and activities. Over the course of the contract, Mission disseminated our findings on behalf of HRSA, as this helped HAB promote successful project interventions for adoption by other jurisdictions.
